Ethernet Single Service Access This access type supports a single service delivered via one physical customer handoff. It is the simplest and most common type of Ethernet Access and is the base component and integral part of every AAPT/powertel network. The customer handoff is UNI/TLS which supports both untagged and tagged frames.

Ethernet Trunk Access*

This access type supports multiple services delivered via a single physical customer handoff using IEEE802.1Q encapsulation. The customer handoff is an NNI/DOT1Q

Ethernet Multi-Service Access*

This access type supports multiple services each delivered via a dedicated customer handoff port on an 8/24-port Service Aggregation Switch (SAS). Like Ethernet Single-Service Access, each customer handoff port on the Service Aggregation Switch is UNI/TLS, which supports both untagged and tagged frames.

Ethernet Access is provided over the AAPT Fibre Access Network at speeds up to 10Gbps into any of its 1100+ fibre-lit buildings, including co-location facilities and most of the major data centres nationwide.

AAPT provides Ethernet Access over its Mid-Band Ethernet (MBE) Access Network at speeds up to 40Mbps (distance dependant) to over 600,000 businesses in over 154 exchanges nationally^.

AAPT owns and operates an extensive national fibre network with significant metropolitan and regional coverage.

AAPT was the first Australian provider to widely deploy Ethernet over Copper (EoC) in 2006 and is continually expanding its MBE Access Network^

Fibre and Mid-Band Ethernet Access Networks

AAPT provides Ethernet Access via its Fibre and Mid-Band Ethernet Access Networks to the metropolitan areas of Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and regional centres in QLD, NSW, VIC and WA.

Customer Site Pricing

Two pricing and assurance zones apply:

  • Metro (CBD and metro areas of Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth)
  • Regional (regional centres in QLD, NSW, VIC and WA)

Ethernet Access from Third-party Providers

AAPT also offers Ethernet Access from third-party providers at speeds up to 1Gbps to complement its own coverage.

A single co-location Ethernet pricing and metro assurance zone applies.

Network Termination Unit Enhanced Features

All Ethernet Accesses delivered via AAPT Infrastructure include a Network Termination Unit (NTU), which provides:

  • Flexibility in terms of customer interface options
  • Enhanced Operational, Administration and Management (OAM) capabilities
  • Superior Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) capabilities including comprehensive visibility of service performance and availability

The following enhanced features are supported:

  • Jumbo Frames (up to 8960 bytes)~
  • Optional Link Loss Forwarding on MBE Access Network degradation+
  • Protocol Transparency – Customer VLANs and Layer 2/3 Protocols are supported transparently
  • Online Service Qualification – Access Network Availability can be qualified as part of the online ordering function
